On a leisurely ride through South Albany this week, I came across a feature in the urban landscape I can’t remember seeing before. It’s this broad swath of parkland the width of a street and four blocks long, with a concrete path winding down the middle for walking or riding a bike.
On Facebook and in real life, people in South Albany have been clamoring for the city to fix up the rough pavement on Hill Street, or wondering when this would finally be done. The answer is pretty soon, namely this year and probably next.
This was the question that arrived via email from an Albany reader: “What is going on with the traffic lights that are supposed to be put in at 34th Avenue and Marion and 34th Avenue and Hill?” As luck would have it, the Answer Man is in.
Watching sports fields grow at Albany Y
Now and then the bike takes me along 34th Avenue, where for the past year or so construction has been progressing on the ambitious sports complex being built by the Mid Willamette Family YMCA.
