Sale of old church: Council agrees

Written February 9th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

So yes, Good Samaritan Ministries Albany will get a chance to take on the project of restoring the crumbling Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 401 Main Street, but not right away. First there is the city land-use permitting process to overcome, and that’s expected to take three to four months.

Democrats to enlarge voter rolls

Written February 9th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

It’s no surprise that Democrats in the legislature are about to enact a bill intended to vastly increase the number of voters likely to vote Democratic. The upshot is that Oregon’s one-party government will become even more firmly entrenched in the years to come.

Written February 4th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Since it was completed last September, the new roundabout on Albany’s rebuilt Main Street has been tempoarily marked with orange plastic while the city tries to decide whether to get fancy with decorating the place. Nobody asked me, but I would put in a tree and some low-maintenance shrubs and forget about anything that costs tens […]

Property taxes could rise faster

Written February 3rd, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Here’s a graphic it pays to keep in mind as the legislature in Salem considers various schemes to let property taxes rise faster than they have in recent years. The chart is posted on the wall of the Linn County Department of Assessment and Taxation. And as you can see, it tracks the almost uninterrupted growth in […]
