In case you missed the memo, get ready for construction to start on Monday (Sept. 9) on a downtown section of Washington Street in Albany.
As Albany drivers have noticed, part of Queen Avenue is partially closed for construction. This is the first phase of a two-phase project that has to be finished by Nov. 1.
Sections of two main traffic routes in Albany, Washington Street and Queen Avenue, are due to be repaved starting this summer at a construction cost totaling about $7.5 million.
The two-story wall across Washington Street from the Albany Carousel is no longer going to be drab or blank.
The day before Thanksgiving, a couple of signs caught my eye. They were attached to two trees in the 500 block of Washington Street.
Old forgotten rails: When history fades
For many years, a remnant of a long unused railroad spur has been visible on the west end of Water Avenue at Washington Street. Before this artifact of Albany’s history disappears forever, I tried to find out where it led back in the day.
