A sunny and mild day in January, a welcome break from recent rains: What better time for a little demonstration of how bike lanes make cycling more feasible on roads that carry a lot of cars and trucks.
When you’re stuck in traffic, whether it’s stop-and-go on I-5 south of Portland or waiting through two cycles of a light on Ninth in Albany, you get the impression that Oregon just has way too many people. Or people with cars, anyway.
Now that school is back in session, we’re supposed to be extra careful in watching out for little children in traffic. While we’re doing that, we might also want to watch out for wildlife, especially deer, meandering along our country roads.

It wasn’t foggy in the valley Wednesday except on I-5. And there the gray blanket in the air wasn’t fog but the usual spray kicked up by traffic. Which made me wishing for the umpteenth time for better drainage on the freeway.
