Council approves ‘Calapooia Court,’ 5-1

It took nearly three hours for another public hearing Wednesday night, but in the end the Albany City Council voted 5-1 to approve a project for the northeast corner of Fourth Avenue and Calapooia Street, where three dilapidated old houses were demolished a year ago.

As expected, the Albany City Council will once again be asked to decide what happens on the corner lot of Fourth and Calapooia where it authorized the demolition of three historic but dilapidated houses last year.

The Albany planning staff has recommended eight conditions, including a reduction in height, for approval of two new three-story buildings in the Monteith Historic District.


State faults Albany council on old houses

What happens now, now that LUBA has faulted the Albany City Council for how it decided to allow the planned demolition of three old houses? The main upshot seems to be that the houses, at Fourth and Calapooia, are not likely to be demolished any time soon.


Demolition stayed pending appeal

As far as the Albany City Council was concerned, demolition could start any time now on three decrepit old houses at Fourth Avenue and Calapooia Street. But an appeal against the council’s decision is pending, and the Land Use Board of Appeal this week stayed the city’s demolition permits.
