Cities now can fight urban deer

Albany may not have a problem with too many deer, but some Oregon cities apparently do. To help them, the legislature passed Senate Bill 373, which calls for a way to get rid of some of those urban deer.

This little doe and her family wander past my window outside of Albany on most days, and seeing them reminds me of one legislator’s attempt to solve a couple of problems: Too many deer in some cities, and deer killed in traffic being left on the roads.


Bill would allow killing of ‘urban deer’

The black-tailed deer family that crosses our yard most days was coming through again Monday just as I learned about Oregon Senate Bill 373, a proposal for a program to rid participating cities of “urban deer” by killing them and giving the meat to food banks.
