Let’s check in on OReGO, which seems to be flying under the radar of public interest and perhaps awareness. Maybe people would be more interested if I raised the possibility that Oregon’s pioneering approach to road taxation might some day work to get a little extra revenue from bicyclists as well.
Oregon’s voluntary road user fee program is puttering along, having produced at least one surprise, and my question is: Now what? Will Oregon take the next step and go for a mandatory system of paying road taxes by the mile?
Well, this OReGo program could be a money maker — for me, if not for the state. And by “money” I mean a few pennies or fractions of pennies.
After a confused start, my part of Oregon’s new road tax system may be on its way after all. We’ll see in a couple of days whether my newly installed mileage reporting device actually reports mileage, as my OReGO account manager assures me it will.

A city street user tax in distant future?
At City Hall, Albany officials are taking another stab at finding a way to pay for maintaining and repairing streets. It will take more than a year of meetings, discussions, and public “outreach.” Wish them luck, for the chance of solving this issue is small.
