Trestle: Simple solution isn’t feasible

Now that we’re talking about Albany’s infamous truck-eating trestle on First Avenue, why not solve the problem by lowering the street or raising the structure holding the track? Because while it sounds like the most straightforward solution, it’s impractical. If it were feasible, it would have been done long ago.

Do you think Albany will do anything else to keep trucks from hitting the railroad overpass on First Avenue? Me neither, but at least the subject came up — briefly, and without resolution — at Wednesday’s meeting of the Central Albany Revitalization Area advisory board.

At first glance, from afar, it looked like trouble with the Portland & Western trestle on First Avenue, where for decades trucks have now and then become stuck. But in this case, on Monday morning, trouble had done everybody a favor and stayed away.
