A perspective from Oregon’s mid-Willamette Valley
Several times since 2012, I’ve paid tribute in this space to the late Don Stathos, father of the Oregon Bike Bill. And it’s that time again:
Fifty years ago this week, the Oregon House passed HB 1700, the bike bill, whose chief sponsor was Don Stathos, a Republican from Jackson County and a resident of Jacksonville.
As far as bikeways go, the one honoring the father of the Oregon Bike Bill isn’t much. It’s nothing more than the narrow and occasionally bumpy shoulders of the Jacksonville-Medford road.
