An overnight shelter for homeless youth has been talked about in Albany for years. Now it’s about to become a reality, which I discovered when I was perusing the online records of the city planning commission the other day.


Albany backs off marijuana-store ban

Whatever happens with medical-marijuana dispensaries in Oregon, Albany won’t be in the forefront of trying to keep them out, at least for now. The city council Monday voted 4-2 to withdraw its application to change the city development code to prevent marijuana stores from getting started.


Planning panel opposes pot amendment

The city council’s attempt to keep medical marijuana dispensaries out of Albany once state rules allowing them take effect in March may have hit a bump. On Monday night, the city planning commission recommended against a proposed change in the city development code intended to ban dispensaries but seemingly banning all pot.


Panel backs Albany ‘bottle drop’

Albany could get a “bottle drop” this year if the city council goes along with a unanimous recommendation the city planning commission reached on Monday night, but the city staff does not like the location.
