Albany code stalls downtown project

Written May 7th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Back on March 19, Albany’s downtown urban renewal board voted to support a project to renovate a tired old building on Third Avenue and build four townhouses next door. Since then the project has stalled because even though Albany wants more people to live and work downtown, city zoning and development codes say these townhouses-cum-offices can’t […]

The changing face of Pacific/Ninth

Written May 6th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

Every day for the last few years, thousands of drivers have passed the vacant lot where a Mexican restaurant used to stand between Albany’s Pacific Boulevard and Ninth Avenue. This week we saw something new: Trucks and excavation equipment where for a long time only weeds were to be seen.

It looks like things are about to get going on the Albany site where Lowe’s plans to build a 125,000-square-foot home improvement and garden center. The city of Albany’s building permit for the project has been ready since Friday and on Tuesday was still waiting for a company representative to pick it up.
