A proposed truck stop near the I-5 interchange with Old Salem Road has caused a stir in Millersburg, where the city’s planning commission is scheduled to take up the matter on Jan. 10.
The new supermarket and hardware store planned for North Albany Village will open this spring, perhaps as early as May 1. That’s the hope of Tyler Myers, president of The Myers Group, who called me from Seattle Thursday to confirm the plans for what will be his company’s first store in Oregon.
Albany officials cite several benefits of the back-in diagonal parking that will be installed on three sides of the post office starting in January. They don’t mention the downside, which motorists will probably notice when they try to use the new setup.
Goodbye trees; you’ll be replaced
It’s possible that what starts next week will become known as the great Albany tree massacre of 2017. But in a few years the massacre may be forgotten as a whole bunch of new and — one hopes — more stately trees grace downtown streets.
