    Somehow, the sign I passed on a bike ride outside of Medford on Sunday reminded me of the gun bill — and signs of a completely different kind — the Oregon legislature has passed and sent to Governor Brown for her signature.


Albany council zeroes in on $9 service fee

As expected, the Albany City Council is getting ready to set the base rate of the proposed city-services fee or tax at $9 per month for single-family households.

In budget news, Carnegie library stays ‘open’

Albany’s proposed city budget for the next two years has a bit of encouraging news, as far as I’m concerned. It does NOT call for or require the closing of the Carnegie library downtown.


‘Enhanced enforcement area:’ What signs mean

The city council has asked for a report on Albany’s so-called Enhanced Law Enforcement Area, including how often it has been enforced. Another question might be: Does the public know what or where it is?


On Linn Avenue, apartment site cleared of trees

The 1900 block of Northeast Linn Avenue looked a lot less leafy this afternoon than it used to. As expected, logging had begun on the north side of the street to make room for “The Banks,” a 120-unit apartment complex on the Willamette river.


Council votes to sell unusual lot for $4,000

Chances are this lot on Albany’s Southeast Burkhart Street will soon look different. The city council has voted to sell the property to two men who want to build attached housing units there.
