Benton ‘sanctuary’ changes nothing

Written December 26th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

For symbolism without substance, few actions will beat the “declaration of sanctuary” by the Benton County Board of Commissioners. Maybe the declaration makes some people feel better, but it changes nothing in the real world.

Radar speed signs prove effective

That old church: Still waiting

Written December 22nd, 2016 by Hasso Hering

Passing by the former Cumberland Presbyterian Church the other day, I wondered if there had been any progress on finding someone to take the old place off the Albany city government’s hands. The answer is no, not much has happened since the city council last dealt with the issue four months ago.

Climate change: We’ve had it

Written December 14th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

As we’re trying to clear our respective windshields of snow and ice on Thursday for the drive into town, we may be thinking that global warming can’t get here fast enough. Or if we can’t have global warming, at least a little local heat would be helpful right about now.
