Looks like Aquatic Harvesting accomplished its mission on Albany’s Wavery Lake, so today the company crew loaded their two weed harvesting machines for transport to their next assignment.
It stopped on a bike ride when I saw the first of the machines being loaded on a trailer. I should have asked, but didn’t, where they were going next.
In any case, the lake looked completely clear. A couple of people ventured out in a canoe, evidently ready to enjoy the lake without its previous layers of algae and rafts of water weeds.
The company, Aquatic Harvesting, of Centralia, Wash., is scheduled to return in October to install a fountain and 12 aerators. The number of aerators was based on the size of the lake and volume of water in it, city officials have said.
It is hoped that in the years to come, aeration will keep down or even prevent the growth that has marred the lake in recent summers. (hh)
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for the success of the aerators. Maybe other local lakes will follow suit.
The lake needs to be dredged instead of pouring money into every year as a band aid fix
AGREED!
And that costs how much? One could make a case it’s an “invasive hole in the ground” and we fill it to restore nature’s natural order.
