At least a few drivers making right turns on red at Queen Avenue and Geary Street in Albany seem to have trouble coming to a stop before they start the turn.
Safety has been given as the reason for Albany’s red-light cameras and photo radar campaign. So you might think the cameras would be deployed at the intersections with the most crashes. But that’s not the case.
New speed and red-light cameras have been installed at Queen Avenue and Geary Street in Albany. I don’t know whether the cameras have gone live yet. And I’m not about to test it by risking a ticket.
So where are we with Albany’s plan to step up traffic enforcement with cameras at four intersections in town? Getting closer, but not there yet.
It was in December 2023 that the Albany City Council voted to equip four intersections with cameras to catch speeders and red-light runners. The cameras may soon be installed, and then we’ll see if they yield the anticipated result.
On N. Albany Road, traffic cameras in place
It won’t be long now before photo-enforcement cameras will keep an eye on North Albany Road traffic at West Thornton Lake Drive.
