Drivers on North Albany Road paid more than $49,000 for speeding tickets they got during May, the last full month of school days since traffic cameras at Thornton Lake Drive went live.
Albany’s expanded venture into photo enforcement of traffic laws is intended to keep people safe, but it also has a money angle. And so far, the money winner seems to be Verra Mobility, the Arizona company that operates the cameras.
It won’t be long now before photo-enforcement cameras will keep an eye on North Albany Road traffic at West Thornton Lake Drive.
There is good news for Albany drivers worried about the photo radar or speed cameras that will be installed soon at two intersections, including one on North Albany Road.
Two members of the Albany City Council seem to have second thoughts about the new speed and red-light cameras the city intends to have installed.

Heads up, Albany drivers: The third and fourth sets of automated traffic cameras now are active and ready to record anyone running a red light or driving too fast.
