An ad by the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative in the University of Oregon’s magazine made me wonder whatever happened to the plans for a central redemption center in Albany. So I asked, and the news is that Albany will get one, probably by the end of August.

No one testified in opposition before the Albany Planning Commission on Jan. 6 when the panel unanimously endorsed a code change to allow a Bottle Bill redemption center. A month later, when the issue came before the city council, five people testified against the idea and two others wrote letters, also opposed. What made the difference? […]

Panel backs Albany ‘bottle drop’

Albany could get a “bottle drop” this year if the city council goes along with a unanimous recommendation the city planning commission reached on Monday night, but the city staff does not like the location.
