North Albany to regain a grocery

Written December 30th, 2016 by Hasso Hering

It’s been a long wait, but North Albany is on the verge of getting its own grocery store again. Not only that, but as I get the story, the grocery will be paired with a hardware store.

Update on the supermarket beat

Written September 14th, 2015 by Hasso Hering

It’s not as though residents of Greater Albany have no place to buy groceries. Nobody is wasting away, getting down to skin and bones because there’s nowhere to buy food. Still, people keep wondering about what’s going on with two former supermarkets and one being planned. So I checked.

He had been entertaining passersby off and on at the North Albany Village shopping center, and at the time, when I wanted to get his picture I could not find him. Somebody had complained about him on Facebook, but I liked his music and I […]

Blow that horn, man!

Written August 29th, 2013 by

In a Facebook exchange about people with cardboard signs begging at street corners, somebody had a complaint. “Have you seen the man in North Albany Village playing saxophone (illegally),” the person wanted to know. Yes, I have, and I’ve slipped a couple of bucks into his sax case lying on the sidewalk. I don’t think […]
