Those mysterious chunks of concrete lying along the Dave Clark Path on Albany’s riverfront are no mystery at all when you remember that a contractor is working to install lighting all along the trail.


Edgewater: No apartments after all

It now sounds as though apartments are not in the future after all for Edgewater Village, the private riverside housing development in which Albany’s urban renewal agency invested $2.4 million.


Where the new carousel will turn

My notes say on this meeting say “yak… yak… yak,” which is shorthand for all you need to know about Wednesday’s discussion about the Albany Carousel’s request for $339,500 in urban renewal money. In the end, all but two members of the Central Albany Revitalization Area advisory board voted, as you knew they would, in favor of granting the request.


Carousel funding: The final round

On the local front, the Albany Carousel is asking for urban renewal money for the third and final time. The request for $339,500 will go before the advisory board of the Central Albany Revitalization Area when it meets at 5:15 Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.


Work starts on Dave Clark lights

The riverfront is my beat, as I may have mentioned, and on a bike ride Wednesday I discovered that construction had begun on the long-awaited project to light up the night along Albany’s Dave Clark Riverfront Trail.


CARA board backs shelter move

The Signs of Victory  “Freedom Road House” homeless shelter would leave central Albany and move across the tracks, literally, under a plan endorsed Wednesday by the advisory board of CARA, the Central Albany Revitalization Area. But before it happens, a few details remain to be nailed down.


Downtown streets: So far it’s talk

Albany hopes to dress up several blocks of downtown streets in order to encourage business, but the plans are still in the talking stage and may change when there’s more information about the cost, which could run into the millions.
