Fall means blocked bike lanes

Written November 18th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

As bike lane obstructions go, this isn’t all that bad. Still, it’s an example of why people on bikes sometimes can’t use the bike lanes all that well. This is on Albany’s Salem Avenue, where homeowners have swept the autumn leaves into the street in the hope that sooner or later, the piles will be picked […]

That signal issue again… still

Written November 16th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

This is a small thing, really. But it still bugs me. I’m talking about those traffic light sensors in bike lanes that don’t do anything. Blackberries, one of the compensations making up for a long summer heat wave! And nowhere are they more plentiful than along the car-less roads of the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area in north Benton County.

Can we get kids to ride bikes?

Written June 25th, 2014 by Hasso Hering

The first “Albany Bike Ride for Kids” turned out to be a bust, but it should not be taken as a discouraging sign. Getting kids interested in cycling doesn’t depend on events. It comes on its own if it comes at all.
