Drivers from Albany and anywhere else might feel a slight bit of unease on a section of Interstate 5 in Southern Oregon these days.
That’s because the Oregon State Police sent out a press release on Tuesday. It said the police were asking for the public’s help because someone apparently has been taking pot shots at vehicles on the freeway between Roseburg and Grants Pass.
Over the last several weeks, the OSP said, troopers investigated five instances in which vehicles were hit by bullets. These incidents happened between mileposts 67 and 100.
Whether as a matter of luck or something else, nobody has been hurt
If you’re driving there and it appears your vehicle has been struck by a bullet, according to the OSP, you should call 911, note the location, and then get out of there — “if possible,” the news release helpfully adds.
Troopers are trying to find the shooter or shooters, obviously, before someone gets hurt. So anyone with helpful information is urged to call the OSP Southern Command Center at 800-442-2068.
I saw the news release on Tuesday. So on Wednesday, when my wife and I found ourselves cruising north on that segment of I-5, we didn’t actually expect to be hit by gunfire. But the warning was on our mind. (hh)
