Albany and other cities could use their red-light cameras to also catch speeders under a bill pending in the Oregon House. But the sensors at Queen and Geary may not be accurate enough for speeding tickets to stand up in court.

Paddlers’ access: A change in plans

For more than five years, Oregon state park officials have wrestled with plans to install a floating dock and ramp on the Luckiamute River, so that launching and retrieving canoes and kayaks would be less of a chore. Now they’ve given up and changed the plans to something less complicated and easier to achieve.

The news on Albany’s Front Avenue is that the “Old Book House” has new owners and the book itself has gone home to the place where it was lost and hidden in a wall for around 80 years.

CARA OKs loan for homeless shelter

Albany officials say the Signs of Victory Mission as been a big help in dealing with the community’s homeless. In return, the CARA urban renewal board Wednesday endorsed a $100,000 low-interest loan to help the mission finish a new homeless shelter across Jackson Street from the Linn County Jail and Sheriff’s Office.
