Albany-Corvallis path is still a long way off

Planned and talked about for more than 20 years, the proposed Albany-Corvallis bikeway is still in the works, but don’t expect its completion any time soon or, depending on your age, before you die.


What happened here? A fire on June 10

The hill on the south side of the Pacific Boulevard overpass bears the obvious traces of a recent fire. I could not help noticing this on Monday when I rode on the pathway between Albany Station and Swanson Park.


All aboard, but new platform’s not finished

On Monday I stopped at Albany Station to see how the construction of a raised concrete platform was coming along. Just then Amtrak’s Train 11, the southbound Coast Starlight, pulled in.


Fire pix looked bad; but food unaffected

Judging by the photos that popped up on Facebook Saturday afternoon, I was afraid our plans for a McDonald’s takeout meal had gone up in flames and heavy smoke. But no, it worked out OK, as you can see from the paper bag hanging from my handle bar.


Permits filed for apartments on ‘Mega’ site

For years nothing much was going on at the former Mega Foods supermarket in Albany, which closed in 2017, but now the owners seem to be moving ahead with their plans to develop the site.
