Trees wilt along North Albany Road

Written July 24th, 2018 by Hasso Hering

Some of the street trees planted along North Albany Road don’t look so hot these days. They seem to be suffering from drought and heat, and if they’re not already dead, the city is trying to keep them alive.

Accessory dwellings: A needless flap

Written July 23rd, 2018 by Hasso Hering

The city council flap over accessory dwellings was not resolved on Monday, and a closer examination makes me wonder why there’s a flap in the first place. Fixing Albany’s development code to align with a new state law should have been no big deal.

$10,000 toward a greater front view

Written July 18th, 2018 by Hasso Hering

You won’t be looking at the famous “cheese grater” at 415 First Avenue W. for much longer. The downtown urban renewal agency Wednesday gave the building’s tenants $10,000 toward refurbishing the building’s front the way it looked after it was built around 1866.
