The Albany City Council has taken the first step before deciding to dispose of three city-owned lots on Jackson Street and Ninth Avenue near the Helping Hands homeless shelter, which already owns most of that block.

Two parties have declared their interest in obtaining three lots owned by the City of Albany near the corner of Ninth Avenue and Jackson Steet. And I’m trying to learn why the city owns these properties in the first place.


A praying mantis on that distant roof?

What’s that odd-looking yellow contraption up on the roof in the distance? It caught my eye on Jan. 25 as I was standing under the Pacific Boulevard viaduct in Albany and looking around.
