New Albany car dealerships in the works

Written October 29th, 2023 by Hasso Hering

This was the construction site of the new Hyundai dealership on Fescue Street in Albany on Oct. 19, 2023.

In case you had not noticed, two new car dealerships are under construction in Albany. On an errand east of I-5 earlier this month, I shot a couple of photos of one of the sites.

The address is 3420 Fescue St., and it’s right across Fescue from Home Depot. The place will be known as Hyundai of Albany, one of the car businesses of Steve Jackson, who is based in Rockwall, Texas.

The main contractor is Walen Construction, of Tualatin. The same company is also rebuilding the former Hertz used-car business at 520 Airport Road as a Subaru dealership for Jackson.

I’m no expert, but judging from what I’ve seen of the construction, both dealerships should be ready to open in 2024.

The Jackson enterprise already owns Albany Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Santiam Highway, as well as dealerships in Corvallis and elsewhere.

Jackson may have additional plans for Albany as well. On Sept. 28, Rockwall-based S.J. Jackson Real Estate LLC bought a 3.2-acre property on the northeast corner of Santiam Highway and Goldfish Farm Road. The sales price was $2,350,000, according to the online records of the Linn County assessor.

Looking at car lots these days, the relative shortage of new vehicles on display makes you wonder what’s wrong with the American auto industry. Every salesman I’ve talked to blames a continuing shortage of computer chips.

But maybe things are looking up. Why else would the owner of several auto dealerships spend millions of dollars to build even more? (hh)

This was looking south on Fescue Street on Oct. 19. Home Depot is out of the frame on the left, the Hyundai site is on the right.

What is going to happen with the old Hyundai of Albany off Santiam hwy next to Los Tequilas Restaurant?

  2. SueBee says:

Off topic Hasso, but could you do an update of the never lived in apartments on Grand Prairie, and Waverly?

I know you said months ago that they were unable to complete construction due to electrical panels not being available… but I can’t imagine that supply is that backed up… it’s got to be losing a crazy amount of money to remain completely unoccupied.

  3. John Will says:

The Subaru dealership is happening because Toyota of Corvallis does not want Subaru to be in the same building as the Toyota dealership. That is what they told us when we bought our Subaru in August.

  4. Barbi Byerley says:

I’m so glad that the Hyundai owners have decidedd to build a bigger better dealership as my little brother works for them.
