It was 46 degrees at 2 this afternoon and sunny. As long as the sun shines, cold weather evidently is no deterrent when it comes to refreshing the paint on a historic Albany church.
In a story here on February 8, I reported on the ongoing effort to repair and maintain the Whitespires Church at Fifth Avenue and Washington Street. It’s a joint project by the two congregations that share the 1891 building.
The Berean Fellowship Church is funding the work, and the Calvary Chapel Albany is having it done through a contractor friend of the church, Pastor Dan Berg of Calvary Chapel told me at the time.
If you like, you can read the story here.
An early part of the job was to fix leaks in the roof, and painting the exterior was to come next. Today, as I went by the church, I could not help noticing that they were following through on what I was told. (hh)
Fantastic! What a glorious structure!! Makes the city smile!!
Great Picture (second) HH! but…. i wonder what is that yellowish gold through the vented window area?
Is it light through a stained glass? One I doubt. Is it a cross?
Otherwise I am curious. Looking at it again before i “comment”.
I’m pretty sure it’s sunlight through a glass window.
It’s the sun hitting the stained glass on the east side of the tower. No cause for alarm.
Cara should pay for fixing up the church as it is about the only building in the historical area worth saving because it is absolutely beautiful and unique.
CARA did pay for the Whitespire’s last paint job, Al.
CARA’s assistance for historic preservation was for a one time kick to set the path for a property to not need future assistance. CARA was not for a property’s on-going maintenance.
