Sorry, birds, the bath is closed today.
The Willamette Valley’s first snowfall of 2025 came today, Feb. 13. For me it meant I could skip the daily bicycle ride.
Instead, I walked around a little:
On days like this, I’m grateful that my years of daily trips to work at the newspaper are far behind me.
Of note today was that while lots of schools and offices closed, including the offices of Benton County government, the Albany Post Office carried on. Somebody chained up those ancient delivery Jeeps, and off they went into these snowy hills north of town.
Like on similar occasions in previous winters, I’m grateful for the utility companies keeping their systems going. The lights are on, and the natural gas is keeping the furnace supplied.
(Political forces in Oregon are working hard to make natural gas disappear. Maybe we should hold state elections in the winter to show them they are making a mistake.)
I’m typing this in mid-afternoon. The National Weather Service is predicting an ice storm later today and through the night.
Good luck everybody. I hope nobody comes to any harm. (hh)
Global climate change. But whatever. The snow looks lovely.
Time to wax up the skis.
We enjoy lounging by our natural gas fireplace during weather like this. So cozy.
During a few power outages of winters past, despite having no electricity, we were able to cook, have hot water and keep from freezing all thanks to the flow of natural gas.
Misguided politicians need to keep their paws off our natural gas.
We always enjoy your pictures of the beauty that we have in here Albany. You have a beautiful home and yard. We wish for everyone to have a home that gives them joy when they wake up to such beautiful scenes of nature as well as the comfort and safety of having a home.
