These wild turkeys paid a visit to the west end of 14th Avenue on Monday afternoon.
You have not seen an update on this particular flock of west Albany’s wild turkeys here since August of 2020. So it’s about time, right?
I had not seen these birds since last year even though the bike takes me through their neighborhood west of Broadway Street two or three times a week. So I was happy to see them when we ran into each other — not literally of course — on Monday afternoon.
Here, take a look.
Aside from their goofy appearance, wild turkeys are interesting birds. If you want to learn more about them, you can do so here, on a website of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
On Monday this group seemed to be on the move and not causing a nuisance in any one place.
People in the neighborhood have probably seen this flock a lot. But until Monday I had not for many months, and I’m glad they’re still around. (hh)
Dinner will be served in a few hours
Just in time for the 25th! Gobble, Gobble. Now where is my musket? Being wild I think they might be a little tough & “gamey” tasting.
Thanks for the great video!
Last year you reported that the council nixed an ordinance that would have made feeding the turkeys illegal.
Perhaps the the council should re-think this issue and impose a ban with a hefty fine.
It would be consistent with other “revenue enhancement” actions they’ve foisted on city residents.
That’s right. Just look at those Turkey’s. All lined up, looking for a handout.
