Time to watch a train pass Albany crossing

Written January 7th, 2025 by Hasso Hering

The track of the Union Pacific mainline in Albany on Jan. 7, 2025, moments after a train passed.

It has been a little while since the Union Pacific made an appearance on this site. Time to remedy that.

Once again, on my usual bike ride Tuesday afternoon, I heard the sound of a locomotive’s horn. The sound was close and coming closer.

I was on the east end of First Avenue when I heard it.

As fast a I could, I turned around and headed for the pedestrian and bike crossing over the tracks on Burkhart Street. If you watched the video, you already know that I didn’t make it in time.

There are plenty of things or activities that are more useful in life than watching a freight train go go. But when a train shows up, watching it seems like the right thing to do. (hh)

I dropped a glove in my haste to record the passing train.

That was a long one. I’m 65 and trains never get old, Hasso. Wish I was still next to the mainline in Shedd.

  2. Dick Olsen says:

Thanks Hasso, Love watching and listening to your train videos.
