“Have you noticed the osprey on the midspan light of the Lyon Street bridge?” the email from Patrick Hagerty asked. “It is there regularly eviscerating the catch of the day.”
I hadn’t noticed. So on Saturday the bike and I took a detour halfway up the bridge so I could take a look.
Sure enough, there was this osprey sitting on top of the light, with what appeared to be a fish in its grip. This was at lunch time, and now and then the bird dipped its head to take a bite.
Then it flew off, taking with it the remains of its catch.
As Pat says, the bird may be a regular on top of that light.
Look for it when crossing the river. But just for a second, while keeping your eyes mostly on the road. (hh)
I’ve seen this, too. In fact, as I cross the bridge, I always look to see if the bird is there.
We’ve seen that osprey while walking across the bridge the last several evenings. Sometimes perches on the top of the Ellsworth bridge too.
