Thirty-five years ago, Albany volunteers using mostly donated materials built the roof over the stage in Monteith Riverpark. On Thursday the roof was gone, demolished as part of the park renovation and the city’s Waterfront Project.
Sunday was another cold day in February. I took one more bike ride to Albany’s Monteith Riverpark, where on Saturday more trees were cut down.
Tree cutting began Thursday along Albany’s Willamette Riverfront to prepare for the city’s “Waterfront Project.” Posted signs said the operation would go through Feb. 28.
The scheduled felling of dozens of trees at Monteith Riverpark came up during Wednesday’s meeting of the Albany City Council. But nothing about the plans changed.
If you visit Monteith Riverpark in Albany this week, you can’t miss the pink X’s on dozens of trees. All the trees thus marked are scheduled to be cut down before the month is out.
Last year it looked as though they had fixed this apparent leak in a water main along Water Avenue in Albany. If they did, the fix didn’t last.
Why this boardwalk is there (version 2)
On Friday’s bike ride I stopped for a minute on the riverfront boardwalk below the Ellsworth Street Bridge.
