When you’re on your bike in Albany, it’s not often that a snake crosses your path. When it does happen, you may want to stop and take a closer look, which is what I did one day last month.
At Timber Linn Park in Albany, they’re getting ready for a bunch of people on bikes. The park is the starting point for Cycle Oregon 2023, a seven-day bicycle tour that will take participants through the Willamette Valley wine country, across the Coast Range and down the coast on inland roads.
Roadside farm stands make excellent destinations for bike rides, especially if they’re relatively close and getting there does not require you to climb any hills.
As if we couldn’t tell by looking around on these very hot days, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality on Monday issued an “air quality advisory” for the south Willamette Valley because of smog and wildfire smoke.
You can walk from Bowman Park to Talking Water Gardens and back along a well trodden path. Albany’s plans call for this path to be improved as the South Waterfront Trail, but carrying out that plan will have to wait.
Every once in a while the bike takes me to the part of Albany east of Interstate 5. It did so on Wednesday, which gave me a chance to take another look at the new Eagle Pointe apartment complex south of the roundabout on Knox Butte Road.
On Second Avenue downtown, a new glow
An evening bike ride through downtown Albany does not usually offer much in the way of attractions other than the general lack of traffic on the streets.
