If you live in the Willamette Valley, nobody has to tell you that is was windy on Saturday afternoon.
The National Weather Service predicted gusts of up to 40 miles an hour in the Albany area and other parts of the southern valley.
When I went to the downtown post office to mail some letters, the Bird electric scooters in the photo above caught my eye. These rental scooters have little kickstands, as you know, but evidently they’re not enough to keep the scooters upright in a strong wind.
The Weather Service warned of possible power failures because of the storm. The service also forecast that the strength of the blow would diminish after 6 p.m. Saturday.
It’s well past 6 now, so if you happen to read this and the lights are still on, congratulations! You evidently got through the Memorial Day weekend windstorm without the power going out. (hh)
Have you test ridden the scooters yet?
Nope.
I’m glad that they are in town. I’d rather see a robust bike share, but scooters do a good job for ‘last mile’ infrastructure.
Sadly, I wonder how long it will be before these scooters start ending up in the waterways and dumpsters? I wonder if the batteries can be used to power small lights in the homeless camps?
