Keeping track: When will car store open?
On June 19, the future home of Albany Subaru looked like this from Airport Road.
Someone asked about the opening date of the Albany Subaru dealership that’s being built at 520 Airport Road S.E. Some time this fall seems like the most likely date.
When I went by there on the bike last week, the construction site looked like plenty of work was yet to be done. A sign company was getting ready to work on the big free-standing sign that used to mark the property as a Hertz used-car outlet.
When I called the Corvallis Subaru store, an employee told me they are shooting for opening the Albany location by October.
This is one of two new automobile stores being built in Albany by Walen Construction, of Tualatin, for the car business of Steve Jackson, based in Rockwall, Texas.
The other is a Hyundai store at 3420 Fescue St., across Fescue from Home Depot.
The Jackson enterprise already owns Albany Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Santiam Highway, as well as dealerships in Corvallis and elsewhere.
As I reported last October, the company had just bought another Albany property east of I-5. According to the online records of the Linn County assessor, Rockwall-based S.J. Jackson Real Estate LLC bought a 3.2-acre parcel on the northeast corner of Santiam Highway and Goldfish Farm Road for $2,350,000.
So far no plans for development of that site have been filed. (hh)
