Look closely and you can spot a bird in the osprey nest over the train waiting on the Albany railroad bridge on Tuesday afternoon.
If you want entertainment on Albany’s Dave Clark Riverfront Path (as if walking or biking were not entertaining enough), check out the osprey nest on the railroad bridge.
Three birds were up there on Tuesday afternoon. I couldn’t tell which one, but at least one of them had to be a chick, because when I last paid attention in early April, there were only the two parents.
Female osprey lay from two to four eggs in the spring, I learned from the interweb. So maybe all three up there Tuesday were chicks and the parents were away.
If they were chicks, they looked pretty big, probably old enough to try leaving the nest. A couple of these bids flapped their wings as though figuring out what they were for. But, disappointingly, they didn’t take off into actual flight.
Here’s a closer look:

Three osprey look down from their nest high above the Willamette River.

And there’s some flapping of wings.

Wings are for flying, or just stretching as the case may be.
Hasso – many thanks for the great pics – nice way to start the day.
Great photos Hasso. Thanks for the bird’s eye view.
These are great pictures. Does anyone know what kind of bird nest is on top of the electric wires running through the Monteith Riverpark?
