Hey, try to keep your favorite eatery afloat

Written March 21st, 2020 by Hasso Hering

Just a reminder that many Albany restaurants, ordered by the state to close their dining rooms, are trying to survive the corona panic by serving take-out meals.

On a ride around downtown an hour or so before sunset on Saturday, I got a look at several places offering take-out service. Not just downtown, but restaurants everywhere are offering the same and hope customers take them up on it.

A downtown sampling:

So if you have a favorite place for meals out and want it still to be there when the panic is over, better look them up online and call them up to order something, if not today then as soon and as often as you can afford.

As for downtown, food establishments are not the only ones offering curbside service.

Lise Grato, the executive director of the Albany Downtown Assocation, told me Saturday the association had installed more than a dozen parking spaces designated as “Curbside Pickup Parking Only.” The spaces, she said, are dispersed to provide “easy access to food and merchandise from over 20 businesses.”

But back to restaurants. Better call up your favorite and order something to go. (hh)

I love the concept and I was totally on board to begin with but now that many people are uncertain about their own financial future it is hard to spend that money for a gift card. I truly hope this is all over soon.

Hard to spend money eating out when one doesn’t have a job.

Thank you, Hasso, and to all those supporting small businesses through this crisis.

We’d like to donate a meal to the staff at the Lebanon Veteran’s Hospital by purchasing gift cards from some of our local restaurants, especially from Novak’s. The Vet staff deserves our help, and the restaurants could use the help, too!

If you are looking to do a meal for multiple people you might want to coordinate delivery to Lebanon, I recommend you call the restaurant. At Novak’s, you would talk to Karen and KayMarie Novak. I have an idea about setting up delivery by a kind-hearted person/company. I can check on that if you like.

And if you want to have a good beer with your meal from one of our local brewery’s, Deluxe Brewing on Water Ave is now able to make curbside deliveries, even growler fills.

Do not forget THE DEPOT. They have done take out for years!!!!
