Three students at West are worried about the common class schedule for 2021-22 that was announced for West and South Albany high schools last week. They’re so concerned that they launched a petition asking the school board to take another look.


Rats! Council hears what can and can’t be done

Does Albany have a growing problem with rats? Not really, and if it does there’s little the city can do. That, paraphrased, was the answer the city council got when the question came up toward of the end of its meeting on Wednesday night.


Fire prevention: Overpass slope cleared of brush

Part of the Pacific Boulevard overpass in Albany looks different these days: It has been cleared of most of the vegetation that made the place a fire danger in dry years, as it did last summer.


Food trucks: Council considers many rules

Food trucks in Albany would be regulated differently under a new city law up for action by the city council Wednesday night. The ordinance would allow food trucks to remain in place indefinitely, with renewable annual permits, but it would also subject them to an array of standards and rules.


Closed sessions: This change would help

Always striving for transparency, the Albany City Council could do something to further that cause by making a change concerning its executive meetings, which shut the public out.

Repaving Gibson Hill: Wait till next year

Many North Albany commuters have learned to dodge the cracks and rough spots in the pavement on Gibson Hill Road, which is good because they’ll have to do so for at least another year.


Riverside trail: Public access restored

Last week, a construction fence had closed public access to the riverside trail heading east from Bowman Park. But today, I’m happy to report that the fence has been moved and public access restored.
