When you’re on a bike, the quality of the road surface below your tires is something you notice. And on the evening of June 28, the hottest day in recorded history in the Willamette Valley, the newly surfaced streets in Albany’s Willamette Neighborhood caught my attention.

On Monday, City Manager Peter Troedsson told the council Albany had 22 days worth of chlorine left. That sounded ominous for the water supply, but since then the outlook has greatly improved.


Albany council enacts new city fee — or tax

Well, it’s official now. The Albany City Council has adopted a new “city services fee” — or utility tax if you will — to help support its general fund, which pays for police, fire protection, parks, libraries and planning, among other things.


Summer concerts: Getting in takes preparation

Albany’s free summer concerts in Monteith Riverpark were a popular attraction before they were cancelled last year because of Covid. This  summer we’ll see how things go when people have to pay for tickets and then go through an elaborate procedure to get in.


Albany center’s goal: Appeal to all ages

The Albany Senior Center will be “rebranded” as the Riverfront Community Center when it reopens, probably this fall, after being all but shut down since March 2020 because of state rules to slow the spread of the Covid disease.
