Before and after on the Cox Creek Path

Written June 26th, 2024 by Hasso Hering

Before: Much of the Cox Creek Path looked like this in early June.

Three weeks ago, on June 5, I ran the above photo to illustrate the difficult challenge the Albany parks crew has every spring in trying to keep weeds under control along the city’s bike and walking paths.

It’s a time-consuming job, but they get it done, either on their own or with help, as these photos show.

The last few times I was out there along Cox Creek, the concrete path had been completely cleared of the weeds that nearly covered it from each side in early June. Not till Tuesday, though, did I think to document the change.

Keeping Albany’ special paths — Cox Creek, Periwinkle, Dave Clark, and others — in reasonable shape is a never-ending task. Those of us who use the paths are grateful for the work being done to maintain them as well as they are. (hh)

After: The roadside (pathside?) weeds have been cut back or mowed down. It looked like this on June 25, 2024.

AKA, thanks to entitled, overpaid government workers for just doing their jobs. I’m sure Gordo and “Coffee” Brock agree!

And just what have you done for the betterment of the community?

        Ray,

I could be wrong, but I think MC was attempting satire in his comment.

Sadly, in today’s political environment it’s hard to tell reality from ridiculous.

Hence, comments like MC’s get misinterpreted and lose their intended bite with most folks. To me, that is rather humorous, probably much to MC’s chagrin.

After reading hj’s comment I’m reminded of a quote I heard last night on CNN:

“I really don’t know what he said on this, and I don’t think he knows what he said either.”

Thank you for the update Hasso. Anyone who does yard work knows how hard and time consuming it can be. I did some weeding and put down bark mulch yesterday. It took me 5 hours which was much longer than I anticipated.

Going forward I will not be surprised if straight jacks will be considered formal attire for anyone running for any government office. We clearly understand what they say.
