The fountain in Waverly Lake at 4:19 p.m. on Nov. 29. It was hard to tell whether the fountain’s lights were on.
The day after Thanksgiving, it was beginning to get dark when I went to see whether Albany’s Waverly Lake fountain was lighted for the holiday season. Not yet, I found out, but soon it may be.
This was a little after 4 p.m. The fountain was spraying away in fine form. It looked to me like the fountain lights were off, but they may have been on, though not readily visible.
A few nights later, when it was fully dark, I could see that the fountain was illuminated by white light.
The fountain was installed in March as part of the work to control or prevent summertime algae growth in the lake. It was also equipped with a lighting system capable of displaying different colors.
I wondered if that system was working.
“It has ability to do color,” Rick Barnett of the parks department confirmed in an email. “It has just reverted back to white with a power outage. Bob Grady from our staff is going to get something holidayish going on it in the next couple of days.”
Something to look forward to on the cold dark nights this Advent season. (hh)
At Waverly Lake, look for holiday colors soon
