Albany resident announces for Senate

Written August 14th, 2013 by

Jo Rae Perkins of Albany, a former chair of the Linn County Republican Central Committee, has filed as a candidate for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in the Republican primary in May 2014. Here she talks briefly about her candidacy.

Perkins, 57, headed the county central committee from 2009 through most of 2012. She also ran for the nonpartisan post of Albany mayor but lost. Married and the mother of two grown children, this year she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Oregon State University.

The Senate seat she seeks is held by Democrat Jeff Merkley, a former state legislator who next year will complete his first six-year term. (hh)
