Riding around Albany in glorious weather on the last Saturday of summer, I noticed that construction doesn’t necessarily stop on weekends, at least not on the block of Pine Street between Second and Salem avenues.
Woodland Square apartment buildings are rising fast along Second, east of Pine.
On one side, men were hammering away and otherwise constructing the Woodland Square apartment buildings Greenberry Construction is putting up for Innovative Housing Inc., the developer. And on the other, Pastor Dennis Johnson and members of his congregation were working on a big pole building. I stopped to find out exactly what the church was building and learned that it’s going to be a gym for children in the church’s school. It may also be used for overflow parking. (Check the video for the details.)
Johnson told me it was fortuitous that the Greenberry crew has been working across the street while the church project is doing on. One day the church found its fork lift was not tall enough for some work up high, and men came over from the Woodland Square project with equipment of their own and gave the church people a hand. (hh)
