If you’re returning empties to the Albany “Bottle Drop” of the Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative — the only such redemption center in Linn and Benton counties — you might want to pick a time other than Sunday afternoon.
On this Sunday afternoon, the place was busy with people who all seemed to have collected vast numbers of empty beer, soda, and water containers. So even though I had far fewer — just $1.25 worth — the wait for a self-service machine took a little while. And as I left, somebody was unloading an entire pickup load of empties.
The place is supposed to be cleaner than the individual stores’ facilities it replaced, but when a lot of people go through there returning not-quite-empty bottles and cans, the staff could not keep up with the spills even if they ran around with a mop all the time. So if you don’t like the odor of stale beer, pick some other time. Maybe early in the morning is better.
Last time I reported on this, I suggested that sooner or later additional centers like this will be needed. Now I’m thinking that “sooner” is the operative word. (hh)
It is so much more easy to simply fill one of their
green-bags and drop it off @ my convenience. No waiting
and no stale beer…
If the stores had been required to have just ONE of these “fast” machines in operation, there never would have been a problem.
My last 2 trips were a 25 & 2 minute wait.
Zero wait if you get their drop-of bags… The center has been a much welcome improvement vs. the old system!
Those who forsake $.15 for convenience should not be involved in gathering revenue from the taxpayers.
