And finally tonight, this update: A crew working for the Portland & Western Railroad spent Thursday tearing out the bumpy pavement at the Riverside Drive crossing and putting down new asphalt.
I briefly talked to one of the guys, who said the paving crew came up from Eugene. He thought the road would be ready to be reopened to through-traffic by mid-day Friday.
The rail line is part of the old Oregon Electric route between Albany and Eugene. (hh)
And once again not much more than a patch job! Without a proper base putting asphalt over R/R ties will only come apart in short order. Why should the R/R be bothered in the first place. According to late 1800’s land grant laws, we the public are crossing their private land. JE
It looked like a pretty thorough job to me. (hh)
