Everybody knows that when it’s hot, it’s hotter in the sun than in the shade. And when you’re riding a bike on city streets during a heat wave, streets with huge trees are more pleasant to ride than those without.

Don’t cut trees that help us stay cool
These hot summer days once again show how useful it is to have lots of big trees along our streets. Mature trees make travel on foot or two wheels bearable and even pleasant by shielding us from the son’s searing rays.
