Every now and then, passersby get an indication that the work of saving and restoring the former St. Francis Hotel in Albany is going on inside.
Albany’s Waverly Lake is a picturesque feature of the cityscape, especially in winter when the water is clear. And city officials have not forgotten about the project to keep it more or less clear of algae year-round.
As you probably know, my bike rides in Albany take me along the Dave Clark Riverfront Path several times a week. So it’s hard not to notice that the vegegation along the top of the bank has been cleared.
We now have an account of what happened when a car with three people inside crashed through the fence at Third Avenue and Vine Street and landed upside down in the Santiam Canal.
The two river-viewing piers on Albany’s waterfront have been closed to the public for reconstruction since last spring, but now there’s a sign of some progress.
At Sunrise Park, discovering a ‘wetland’
On Sunday the bike and I made a detour through Sunrise Park off Southeast Thurston Street. The visit reminded me of the flap over “wetlands” that delayed the reconstruction of this park several years ago.
