A perspective from Oregon’s mid-Willamette Valley

On stage, but no applause

kids stage 2

These teenagers were hanging out on the stage in Albany’s Monteith Riverpark the other day. They weren’t doing any harm, as far as I could see while having  a snack at one of the picnic tables nearby. Still, I’m not sure this stage is the best place for skateboarding or jumping up and down.

Maybe they were thinking of themselves as performers, on stage to show off their skills. But except for rolling about a little, they weren’t doing anything to earn applause.

Pretty soon, the Monday and Thursday night summertime park concerts will resume at Monteith. Then those kids and the rest of us will have something to applaud.(hh)
