Paddlers’ access? Hardly!
It was in 2013 when last I checked on the unfinished paddlers’ access at the Luckiamute State Natural Area on Buena Vista Road just north of the Benton-Polk county line.
Last year, the word was that the facility would be completed in the fall of 2014. I’m awaiting word from the state parks department on whether that plan is still on track.
There’s a river down there somewhere.
A reader reported last week she had managed to get a kayak into the Luckiamute near there, apparently by means of a rope. The place where the access is supposed to be is an almost vertical bank, and I would guess it’s about 20 feet from the top of the bank to the water. Also, the place is choked with brambles and other vegetation.
In spring and early summer, the Luckiamute offers boaters a leisurely drift to its confluence with the Willamette — if you can get to it, that is. (hh)
